Technology & Philosophy

Nikon is proud of the Meisters it employs. These expert product developers provide world-leading knowledge both technically and experientially; it is only after a high-level examination to verify their skills that each individual is certified as a Meister by Nikon. One of the lens polishing specialists, Kenich Honda, states that it is because of their excellent skills that the Meisters are able to produce top quality lenses.

The lens polishing is such a delicate process that the precision can change depending on minor conditions such as the day's temperature, humidity, and whether it is the morning or afternoon.

The accuracy of the lenses varies on a daily basis depending on temperature and humidity. It is obvious that micron accuracy is very keenly valued. As a result, by systematically categorising each Meister's skills, Nikon is able to produce high-quality lenses on a mechanised level to a certain extent. This is one of the theories of skills that I believe could be taught.

The Meister’s keen gaze determines the quality of the product.

The quality comes from serious eye of meisters.

The result of the polishing can be affected by the climatic environment.

The product will go through strict quality management which is known as the world's highest standard.

Quality control is performed with thorough inspections in a process tuned to the world’s highest standard.

Our goal is to transform each Meister's experience into mechanised technology,

thus leading to our ability to extract the full potential from each lens.

NIKKOR lenses are meticulously designed,

– and the technological ability to produce is part of the process as well.

All three elements are nonetheless highly remarkable

and this integration cannot be found elsewhere.

These high-precision lenses can only be realized through the fusion of the latest technology and skilled engineering.
